Ignition insert for piezoelectric hand igniters for household gas apparatus, comprises a coaxial arrangement of ignition electrode, counter mass, crystal assembly and striker part, within a plastics sleeve, whose corresop. closure part receives within it the striker mass which is attached to a latch spindle reaching to the exterior and which can be tensioned against the force of a compression spring. Pref. the sleeved parts are aligned in cross section with the inner dia. of the sleeve, and held within it by bare insertion and closure. Various forms of igniter can conveniently be designed using the unit.
