The local-traffic passenger rail coach is equipped for one-man operation, with entry spaces at both ends containing driver's positions and ticket-issue appliances. The direction signs, which are illuminated dependent on the direction in which the coach is travelling, are fitted in the passenger compartment and also outside near the entrace doors, to guide the passenger flow, indicating the current entry and exit points. There may also be a negative information sign at one end announcing "exit at the rear" or a similar message, and similarly outside at the currently operative entry and exit ends. Signs may light up as the doors are opened and be turned off when they close.
