Stepless variable chain transmission - has two fixed and two movable chain wheels carried on carrier with endless chain

The endless chain rotates about four chain wheels carried on a carrier. Two of the chain wheels are fixed position and the other two are correspondingly movable away from the centre of the carrier, thereby defining a variable gearing dependent on the spacing of the chain wheels from the centre of the carrier. Displacement of the other two chain wheels is achieved by a push pull lever which effects axial movement of a sliding dog which cooperates with a spiral toothed gear to rotate a spiral gear and a meshing gear. The meshing gear moves around the periphery of the spur gear thereby altering the position of the associated chain wheel.
