Novel water-sol. azo dyes are of formula (I), in the free acid form or in the form of one of its possible tautomers: (where D is the residue of a diazo component; X is CN or carbamoyl; n is 1-4; R' is opt. substd. alkyl, cycloalkyl or aralkyl; R2 is H, or opt. substd. alkyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl or aryl). (I) are used as yellow-violet dyes for natural and synthetic polyamides, e.g. wool, silk, nylon 6 and 66, bright, fast dyeing being obtained.
