Continuous furfuryl alcohol (I) prepn. by catalytic reduction of furfurol with gas from NH3-synthesis at atmos. press. takes place in a 1-3% medium of demineralised water at a specific filling wt. of 0.1-0.05 (0.07)kg. furfurol/l. catalyst/hr., pref. at 115-135 degrees C. By this process, furfuryl alcohol yields are increased to 95%. Wear of catalyst is slight and its activity can be maintained unchanged for 1500 hrs. Mol. ratio furfurol:synthesis gas is esp.
