Ultrasonic testing of reactor pressure vessel bolts - using probe with heads scanning several regions simultaneously

An ultrasonic probe for materials testing, esp for testing the bolts of reactor pressure vessels, comprises a number of testing heads arranged transversely across the rod- shaped support or tube constituting the body of the probe; all these testing heads are connected to a multi-channel evaluation unit. Pref. the adjacent testing heads are arranged in more than one plane transversely to the longitudinal axis of the probe. By scanning a number of different regions simultaneously, the total inspection time is reduced.
