摘要
Electric conductor elements, made from relatively inert metals, are glazed by first coating the conductor with a layer (I) of a reactive and sorption-active metal having a m. pt. above the glazing temp. and then directly glazing in a protective gas atmos. with a small residual Oz content so that a layer of oxide is formed on (I) but the entire layer is not converted to oxide. The layer of (I) is pref. applied either by cathodic sputtering or electrolytically and the pref. metal is titanium or chromium; glazing pref. being in a protective, reducing-gas atmos. The process is for mfr. of glass to metal seals from the relatively inert metals Fe, Co, Ni and magnetic alloys; the thin oxidised layer on the reactive metal forming an excellent bond with the glass so a strong joint is obtd. which is absolutely air-tight.
