Target control of mailbag clamps on overhead conveyors in a network with station(s) for loading, distribution, and delivery of the mailbags according to postal identification number, has each clamp given each own identification (clamp identification number). At loading of mailbags, the clamp number and the postal number of the suspended bag are read and fed into a central automatic target controller (process computer etc), where the postal numbers are programmed according to delivery stations. Before each station of the overhead path, the clamp identification number of the arriving clamp is read and fed into the target controller, which then steers the appropriate station by adjustment parameters to actuate the station's positioning elements. Appts. is described. Better adaptation to postal requirements, lower cost and higher reliability of operation, with easier reprogramming, are obtd.
