Switching arrangement with a superconductive front resistance in series with a residual current switch. When the current in the superconductive front resistance exceeds a certain critical value, its own magnetic field will convert it from a superconductive state to one of normal conductivity. The resistance is made up from stacks of laminar disc stampings which have a low inductance. They are all separated from each other by interleaved insulating layers. Both sides of the discs are coated with a layer of superconductive matl. It is applied by precipitation or plating and then coated with the thin insulating layer. The stack is placed in a cylindrical insulator.
