The hot gas quantity supplied to the travelling grate is measured to be directly proportional to the grading characteristic of the mixture and the signal received is used for the gradual variation of the other parameters influencing the permeability. For measuring the gas permeability the pressure within the combustion chamber the variation of the air quantity by varying the fuel/air ratio can be achieved. Alternatively the control can be achieved by varying the fuel quantity at constant air quantity. The same aim can be achieved to monitor and control one or several of the following parameters; height of agglomerate layer, coke and return products quantity of the agglomerate, humidity and ignition intensity.
