The engine is of the type having external parallel shafts and a ribbed rotor with more than three ribs meshing with a groove rotor with more than four grooves, the pitch circle of the ribbed rotor lying outside its root circle, and the pitch circle of the grooved rotor lying inside its top circle. At lease on one side of the tooth profile of the ribbed rotor, the normal at each point to the contour curve includes an angle alpha of more than 5 degrees with the normal on the line connecting the centre of the rotor with that point.
