Combination coupling with flexible and friction element - has adjustable friction load on taper sleeve for varying torque transmission

The coupling has a flexible and a friction coupling. An integral part of the output shaft of the flexible coupling is an integrally tapered sleeve. It houses the tapered friction element which is attached to the output shaft of the friction coupling. The taper is pressed into the friction sleeve by an internal screw ring which applies its axial load through spring washers and a thrust bearing. The setting of the screw ring thus determines at which torque value the friction coupling starts to slip. The spring dished washers act through a thrust ball race which allows relative movement should the coupling slip.
