Diaphragm coupling for high torque and speed - has flexible pierced diaphragms and secondary friction coupling elements

The diaphragm coupling is torsionally stiff yet able to deflect axially in bending. It is used for flexible connection of e.g. hollow shafts and a number of parallel flexible diaphragms are clamped between the shaft ends. The compact coupling transmits power at high rotating speeds e.g. from turbines. The flat diaphragm have openings for increasing the bending flexibility. Torque is also transmitted by connecting elements which pass through the openings. A number of secondary plates are used for transmitting torque by friction contact within the diaphragm system.
