A holder for attaching the electrode plates of an ECG to the human body is mfd. by cutting out a holder from self-adhesive material together with a protective, pull-off sheet of plastics or parchment paper. The protective plastics or parchment sheet is punched to produce the central circular holes in each of the holders, the punched-out disc remaining however in the sheet; the self-adhesive support material is applied to the under face of this pull-off protective sheet and glued to it; and the circular external contour with holding tab is simultaneously stamped out of the two thicknesses of sheet and the central hole is removed from the combined sheet. The support sheet is not in any way damaged by the cutting out of the central hole from the temporary paper cover sheet.
