Ultrasonic testing of reactor pressure vessels - using detectors replaceably mounted on sliding and revolving rod

A probe for inspection of workpieces, esp. reactor pressure vessels, by insertion of the probe into a bore, consists of a rod carrying =1 detectors detachably mounted on an attachment device at its end and slidably guided in a housing; the housing has a seating adjustable to suit bores of different diameters. The housing is pref. rotatably mounted on the seating esp. with a drive. The rod may be non-rotationally keyed to the housing, and have teeth on it which are engaged by a driving pinion to raise or lower the rod. A position indicator shows the position of the rod and thus of the detectors. The attachment device for the detectors may contain a cardan joint. Different types of detector can be readily fitted to the rod.
