摘要
Bricks are produced by mixing together clay (opt. with additives) and 1-3 wt. % (pref. 1.5-2 wt.%) of petroleum coke, moulding the mixt, e.g. by extrusion under press. and firing. The petroleum coke is pref. calcined. Peat coke or soot can be used instead of petroleum coke, being practically free of sulphur and fluorine. During the firing of the bricks, coke burns out thus increasing the porosity of the product. This results in a decrease of heat conductivity (up to about 10%). The strength of the prod. is increased. These advantages are due to the purity of petroleum coke, esp. when calcined (absence of S, F and other harmful impurities). Fines obtd. by coking of petroleum fractions for metallurgical purposes can be utilised.
