The present invention relates to a method for preparing eco-friendly and lightweight clay bricks by recycling the petroleum cokes and the clay bricks prepared thereby. According to the present invention, the eco-friendly and lightweight clay bricks prepared by recycling the petroleum cokes include black clay, red clay, petroleum cokes, integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) slag, anti-freeze agent, and blended water wherein the anti-freeze agent is a mixture of calcium nitrates. The molded clay brick body prepared with the above-described materials is coated with a coating liquid and dried to prepare the clay bricks. The clay bricks are prepared by using the petroleum cokes, which are industrial byproducts left after preparing light oil components through high-temperature thermal decomposition of the heavy oil at high to mid temperatures, in order to recycle resources, reduce the cost of treating contaminants and waste materials, and reduce factors of environmental contamination. The clay bricks have enhanced performance, strength, and absorption rate compared to conventional bricks, are more economically and socially efficient by reducing the weight and conveyance cost accordingly, and enable easier operations by reducing the need for conveyance in a construction operation. The clay bricks can be also prepared in various designs to realize a pleasant appearance while enhancing the contamination resistance and durability.
