Mass prodn. of ornamental glass objects - device for making graduated colour tones by blowing composite glass

Special colour shading effects or tones on glass objects are obtd. by pressurising a glass mass and the resulting deformation and/or indentations alter the thickness of the glass in accordance with the effect required. The alteration in thickness pref. refers to the thickness of a glass paste measured in a plane at right-angles to the longitudinal axis of the device applying the pressure, the pref. device contg. a conical head provided with grooves corresp. with the aesthetic effect desired. A glass mass is placed over the glass paste and the composite mass blown to make the objects required. Used for making e.g. glass bowls with graduated colour and/or shading. The objects can be made on automatic or semi-automatic machinery with substantial savings in hand labour and cost.
