Liq. compsn. which contains a galactomannan, glucomannan or gluconoglucomannan polysaccharide, a polyglycol and sugar-alcohol dispersion accelerator and water as dispersion medium, and an anionic-and/or non-ionic surfactant and has a hydrophilic-lipophilic balance (HLB) value 5 and permeability 40 secs. is pref. used for impregnating clothing to prevent burns; protecting respiratory organs against toxic gases by covering with an impregnated cloth; purifying waste gases; as a fire-extinguishing spray and as a carrier for storing water and fertilisers in sol. Dispersion is thixotropic, has high dispersibility, dispersion-stability, low surface-tension even at required dilution high activity to bond matls., high adsorption, e.g., of gases and dust, wetting-props., permeability, and water-retention.
