Winch drum includes two spaced apart side members each with a boss for mounting it on a shaft and with axially projecting co-axial ring for supporting cylindrical part of the drum. The cylindrical surface of the drum is formed by number of curved sections with inwards projecting flanges along longitudinal edges which are positioned side by side and resting with their ends on the axially projecting rings of the side members. Each section is held in position in axial and circumferential direction by a bolt which is projecting through lugs attached to its bottom surface and which is clamping it axially between the side members.
