Rotatory device for detoxifying thermo catalytic quenching salts contg. cyanides in which the salts are placed together with at least 10 wt. % metal turnings has a lining resistant to heat, temp. variation, acids and to abrasion. The chamber can be heated, in use; with hot air to 800-100 degrees C and it is connected to ducts for evacuating residual gases. The device is associated with a regenerating bath comprising a 25% aq. soln. of iron sulphate in which slag and dross are placed after removal from the thermal regenerating chamber. Method results in oxidation of cyanides to cyanates.
