The magnetically levitated railway system stability is improved by the use of damping solenoids. The coach body has supporting and guiding solenoids which act in conjunction with the secondary conductor in the track. Each of these solenoids is faced by a damping solenoid whose current can be varied in relation to coach body oscillations. The damping solenoids are fastened on the coach body with higher flexibility than the supporting and/or guiding solenoids. As a result the damping solenoids and supporting solenoids move independently relative to the secondary conductor. The current used for damping is very low. The forces in the overall magnetic system compensate for unevenness in the track.
