Cellulose digester formed by an upstanding vessel is provided with an endless digesting chamber between the vertical runs of which sepd. by partition walls is arranged a washing chamber supplied with cellulose particles by an endless conveyor disposed in the digesting chamber, the washing chamber being provided with a continuously operating discharge device. The endless conveyor is led over guide rollers disposed above the open end of the washing chamber and at the base of the digesting chamber. Mixing of the digesting and washing liquors is prevented and the construction is compact and space saving.
