Title cpds are of formula (I) (where Ar = phenyl opt substd by one of Cl, NO2, OH and -O-CH2-O- or by =1 of CH3 - and CH3O). They are prepd by the condensn of 5 amino -6-hydroxy-7-dimethoxy benxofuran (II) with an aryl imino ether AR-C(NH)OC2H5 (III). In an example 52.6g (III) Ar=3-CH3O phenyl, was treated with 0.26 mole (II) and refluxed in 250 ml ethanol for 2 hours to give 53% of (I) m. pt. 97 degrees C.
