Cathode assembly for industrial electrolytic cell - with stiffening plate, having improved electrical efficiency

The cell is off the type having vertical, perforated metal cathode pockets each with a central stiffening plate fixed to an electrical supply sidewall of the cell and extending across the cell to the opposite wall. The stiffening plate is profiled to a progressively reducing cross-section as the distance from the supply sidewall increases, e.g. by making a triangular cut-out from the plate, so that effective cross-section reduces directly with current intensity. The cut-outs permit improved circulation of electrolyte liquid.
