Sewing machine with hollow needle support arm - has only drive connector elements in the pillar

A sewing machine includes a hollow needle support arm supported parallelly above a hollow base by a hollow vertical pillar, located at one end of the base. The base encloses a drive motor and e.g. a mechanism for driving the shuttle and feed dog whilst the arm incorporates all of the drive elements for driving the needle bar. The vertical pillar only encloses connecting elements between the drive elements in the base and the arm. The sewing machine is compact and provides the max. possible space between the pillar arm and base in which an operative can put his arm, thereby simplifying operating the machine.
