Mounting of vehicle rain and humidity probe - is flush with windscreen surface avoiding damage by wiper blades

A probe for a rain and humidity detector is mounted on the windscreen of a motor vehicle below the surface of the windscreen. The exterior surface (1) of a windscreen has a cup shaped hollow (2) which was formed by grinding before the windscreen was shaped. The two elements (3) of the probe are mounted in the sides of the hollow and flush with the surface. A heating element may be placed between the probe elements to evaporate any water. The element (4) may also be fitted on the interior of the windscreen. The two elements may be about 10 or 15 mm apart.
