The gauge determines kiln brick wear as required for maintenance, utilizing the characteristic of the tapering bricks whereby the remaining thickness is determined by measuring the internal heat eroded face. A board houses a curser bearing a sliding scale which is set on its graduated run to indicate the exposed face dimension; this scale incorporating perpendicular sub-scales arranged to slide longitudinally on the primary scale. The sub-scales are pref. transparent and the base board embodies graduations for various brick types. The scale is particularly for using in the iron and steel industry.
