The device locks small tools in fixtures such as scriber points in trammel arms. The tool support (1) has a through bore (2) in which the tool (3) is a close fit. A second bore (4) which is oblique to, and running into the first bore (2) has a ball (6) and a compression spring (5) which is retained in the bore by a suitable plug. The tool (3) is held by the friction between the ball and the surface (7) due to the load exerted by the spring. Any upward force on the tool (3) increases the wedging effect of the ball on the surface (7) of the tool.
