The purpose of the invention is to provide a procedure ensuring complete fermentation inside a container under controlled conditions, thus avoiding areas of incomplete fermentation found on the periphery of compost heaps prepared in the open air. These containers are air and steam proof and have perforated floors (3) so that air can be blown upwards or downwards by means of a fan (4). The containers can be used for the sterilisation of the compost, also for the sowing and growing of the mycelium. The air is warm and is used to pass vapour over the compost.
