A large capacity enclosure has a perforated double floor on which the compost is deposited. A fluid feed is connected to the part of the enclosure beneath the perforated floor to admit fluid through the floor to the compost. The fluid is recycled through the compost and the temperature and humidity are controlled. The enclosure may comprise a trailer or it may be adapted to fit on a trailer. A roof can be opened for easy loading with compost, for example by an elevator.
