A tongue of metal fits inside one of the tubes and is held in place by a crosspiece. The protruding part has a slot and slides inside the end of the other tube. The joint is held together by a second cross-piece or bolt. To bend the joint one tube is pulled away from the other, and the joint pivoted round the second bolt, the tongue fitting into a slot in the side of the tube. This form of the joint gives approximately 90 deg. movement. If a tongue is used with slots at both ends the movement will be about 180 deg.
