Lowering mechanism for use in concrete roof and floor manufacture can be operated in conjunction with scaffolding to hold e.g. formwork. A vertical support has one end applied directly or indirectly to a building support and the other end has a cover plate device. This has varying shape and size and an adjustable screw to control its positions and a cross plate with a flange which engages into a U-shaped support on the vertical support. A support for the formwork is attached to the vertical support and can slide on it. Wear effects between various components is reduced in comparsion with prior art assemblies.
