2,6-Dimethyl-3,5-dicarbonyl (or dicyano)-1,4-dihydropyridine prepns - used in treatment of hepatic diseases caused by peroxidative damage of biological membranes

Preparations containing as active component a 2, 6-dimethyl-3, 5-dicarbonyl (or 3, 5-dicyano)-1, 4-dihydro pyridine of general formula (I): (where R - alkyl, opt. substd. carbalkoxy, substd. carbamoyl or cyano; R1 = H, alkyl, aryl or beta-pyridyl) are new. Named cpd. (I) is 2,6-dimethyl-3, 5-dicarbethoxy-1, 4-dihydropyridine(ethydine). Ethydine (I) inhibits peroxidative processes in biological membranes in organs esp. the liver and may be used in the treatment of those liver diseases such as necrotic liver alterations, fatty hepatosis, virus hepatitis etc. (I) has anti-oxidative activity and may also be used as a stabilising agent for biological membranes or other tissues in the organism. (I) has high specific activity and no side-effectS. It is stable in closed containers.
