The circuit comprises a rectifier connected to a load capacitance which has in parallel with it a circuit comprising a series resistance followed by a shunt resistance across which are output terminals. The latter resistance is shunted by a branch comprising a diode in series with an auxiliary capacitor, of greater capacity than the load capacitor, shunted by a resistance. In addition the circuit has at its input a level detecting device (E) whose step level is chosen such that the maximum level admitted to the load capacitor (C2) is slightly higher than that necessary to trigger the step amplifier connected to the output terminals (S1, S2).
