Educational unit for severely deaf - uses coding each sound in emitted audio signal

The frequency range corresponding to the speech range is divided into n bands, and the range of audible perception of the deaf person is divided into a similar number of volume intensity intervals, so that each of the latter can be associated with one of the frequency bands. The white noise emitted by the unit is then intensity modulated, to represent the frequencies of the sound, and supplied to the ears of the deaf person. The unit has a sound input circuit (2), an analyzer (4), a synthesiser and coding circuit (6) and a circuit (8) for reconstructing the coded sounds. The analyzer (4) preferably comprises three pass-band filters (14, 16, 18) in parallel, each supplied by a single preamplifier (12).
