Cooling panels for blast furnaces - providing cooling for internal refractory lining support ribs

In a cooled shaft furnace, partic. a blast furnace comprising a steel shell on the inner face of which cooling panels are fixed, is provided with (a) internal vertically aligned cooling pipes whose upper and lower ends pass through the shell to the outside of the furnace, and (b) a support rib through which a pipe with connections outside the shell also runs substantially in a horizontal plane. At least a part of the vertical pipes pass through the cooling panel on a significant part of the vertical dimensions of the support rib.
