Oral male contraceptives - comprising steroidal progestogens potentiated with hydroxybenzoic acids

Male contraceptive compsn. comprises (a) 17alpha-acetoxy-6alpha-methylpregn-4-ene-3,20-dione (A') and/or 19alpha-ethynylnortestosterone enol cyclopentylacetate (A2) and (b) one or more of salicylic acid, aspirin, gentisic acid, O,O-diacetylgentisic acid and their salts with organic and inorganic bases and (c) an orally acceptable carrier. Oral contraceptive agent for inhibiting the fertilizing ability of human spermatozoa. The dose of the progestogens A' and A2 is reduced by the potentiating action of the hydroxybenzoic acids (b). Pref. compsns. contain 0.1-0.5 mg of (a) and 3-6 g of (b). The ratio of (b) to (a) is 5000-100,000:1, pref. between 10,000-50,000:1.
