The objects are loaded in bulk into a conical upper cover (8) attached to a stationary cylindrical casing (7). A rotor (2) supports a conical surface (18) with at least one opening (20). Objects passing down this opening are discharged via an opening (14) in the casing (7). Stationary deflector plates are attached to the casing and are spring loaded to press against the top of the rotor. A geared motor (26) drives a wheel (32) which drives the rotor by friction. A torque-sensitive device in the drive causes an electrical contact to close when there is excessive torque, starting a reverse rotation procedure. The device can be adapted to handle non-circular objects.
