A dust separator for a chimney has a cylinder (1) forming part of the chimney, with a horizontal plate across it, dividing it into upper and lower compartments. Around the cylinder and parallel with it, is a set of e.g. four cyclones (6) which discharge at their tops into a helical section, communicating with the lower chamber, immediately under the horizontal dividing plate, and which then continue upwards to communicate with the interior of the upper chamber. This chamber is divided into four segments by partitions (9) across it at right angles, one for each upper discharge portion of a cyclone. In another design, the cyclones are attached to the lower chamber by gusset plates.
