Tissue samples are prepd by embedding in paraffin etc for microtome sections required for histological research by passing them in turn through dehydration, stabilisation and impregnation baths, arranged in a circle. The baskets carrying the samples are suspended from a rotatable spider and are lowered into the respective baths in turn by program control. This allows successive prepn of the tissue samples in charges as they become available in hospitals or research laboratories. Urgent samples can be treated faster and labour available is better utilised.
