The apparatus, for teaching auditory-verbal perception to a patient undergoing pathological difficulties, incorporates a sound signal source and a carrier signal source connected through cascade circuit elements to a modulation amplifier. The audible sound signal generator has a rectifier between it and the modulator. The modulated signal passes through a low pass filter and output amplifier to a pair of headphones which are worn by the patient undergoing the test. The audible sound signal may be generated by a microphone used by the instructor or by a tape recorder for previously prepared transcripts.
