Conveyor system with horizontal and vertical conveyance lines - containers are maintained in horizontal position during movement

The system contains an arrangement of connected horizontal and vertical conveyors, the horizontal ones being positioned on different heights. Each conveyor carries a number of moveable container retainers, having a flange arrangement with edges, at right angles to each other. Each vertical and horizontal conveyor has a drive coupling unit, to move the retainers along the conveyor concerned. The coupling unit has a driver, which may engage on at least one edge of a retainer, to move it along the conveyor. An additional unit selectively moves the retainers between the vertical and horizontal conveyors.
