1407109 Safety belt TAKATA KOJYO CO Ltd 14 Dec 1973 [16 Dec 1972] 57980/73 Heading A3V [Also in Division E2] A safety belt system comprises two arcuate arms, telescopically housed in a housing open at both sides of a seat, attached to wires driven by a motor and gearing, whereby the arms can be projected to pull out a safety belt. The motor is responsive to actuation of seat and door switches. The system is applicable to two-, three-, or four-point belts. Arms 2, 3 within the housing 1 are attached to wires 12, 13 which pass out through apertures 14 and engage between gears atop the motor 18. When applied to a three point belt as shown arm 2 pulls out a lap belt 29 and diagonal belt 29'. A ring 30 on the lap belt is clipped to a hook 31 on the arm 3. The arms are then withdrawn so that the end of the belt is drawn across the wearer to a lock, Fig. 8-b. The ring 30 is pulled under locking lever 36, and drops behind upstanding portions 45 so that it is locked. Pawl 34 holding the ring in hook 31 is released by cam 32. The wearer can release the lock by moving handle 37 which raises lever 36. In a four-point system having a pair of lap and shoulder belts, the lap belts are locked together in front of the wearer.
