摘要
Ethylenically unsatd. monomers are polymerised in presence of an initiator system contg. an acid anhydride and H2O2, in amt. sufficient to initiate polymerisation. Polymerisation can be initiated at 20-30 degrees C and continued at 25-55 degrees C (30-40 degrees C), to a monomer conversion of 80-92%. The dangers associated with the use of organic peroxides are avoided. Pref. anhydrides are R'CO2COR2, where R1 and R2 are (cyclo)alkyl or aryl. The polymerisation of vinyl chloride is clamied. Other monomers include (substd.) styrene, acrylic monomers, vinyl esters, vinyl ethers and ketones, and other halo-olefines. Unsatd. polyester resins, esp. water-dispersible unsatd. polyesters with high acid number, can be prepd.
