1517743 Guiding webs UNIROYAL Inc 14 July 1975 [1 Aug 1974] 29408/75 Heading B8R A web, e.g. of tyre building fabric, is guided transversely by rollers mounted on carriages which are urged towards each other simultaneously so that the rollers are urged into contact with opposite side edges of the web. In a first embodiment, the web is guided in a vertical plane between pairs of freely rotatable rollers lla, 11b, 25c, 25d, &c., Fig. 1, whilst rollers 37c, 37d, 39c, 39d &e., on carriages 17, 19 guide the web transversely. The carriages, slidably mounted on shafts 13, 15, are interconnected by linkage 45, 47, 49, 51 and are urged towards each other by a counterweight 61. In a second embodiment, Fig. 4, the web 203 is guided horizontally on roller balls 111 and the roller carriages 121, 123 are biased together via springs, e.g. 161. Additional overhead rollers, e,g, 184 prevent the web from riding up and a magnetic web brake associated with a transverse cutting device, is provided.
