The rapid determination of the dependent variable in relation to a number of parameters is facilitated by digital interpolation of characteristic values stored in a read-only memory. If a particular function is dependent upon a number of parameters, characteristic values may be measured. A curve may be plotted and digitised information at a number of points may be stored. If an intermediate point in the field is to be considered it may be located in relation to the nearest known points. An address unit locates the values relating to these points and transfers the information to intermediate stores. The contents may then be interpolated and read in two output buffers before a final linear interpolation is executed to evaluate the dependent variable.
