[Also in Division D1] A method of securing flexible and stiff reinforcement members in a grid reinforcement for concrete comprises the steps of supplying a flexible reinforcement spacer to a securing location, laying a stiff reinforcement rod across said flexible spacer, forming a U-shaped loop in said flexible spacer at each side of said reinforcement rod, such loop being coplanar with said spacer, and then twisting said loops together to secure said reinforcement rod and said flexible spacer together. A rod 1 is released by an abutment 43 to slide down a plate 11 on to wire 2 extending along a baseplate 10, from a reel 12, a rod 1 previously secured to the wire being prevented from moving by an abutment 20. A member 18 is then swung up about an axis 18SP1/SP to a position above the wire, a rod 25 is raised by a cam 27 to form a loop 4 to one side of the rod 1, and a rod 24 is then raised by a cam 26 to form a loop 3 to the other side of the rod 21. The loops 3, 4 are then gripped by jaws of a twister 21, the rods 24, 25 being withdrawn, and the twister is rotated to twist the loops together. The jaws are then opened, the twister 21 rotated through 90 degrees and then lowered so that the jaws press the ends of the twisted loops flat on to the rod 1. A plurality of loop forming means and twisters are provided along the length of a rod 1. Plastic filament may be used instead of the wire 2 and the loops 3, 4 may then be formed simultaneously. Crossing rods 1 may be secured together by spacers extending at 45 degrees to them. Fig. 4 (not shown).
