The mechanism comprises an adjustable yoke in which two rollers are rotatably carried. The rod emerging from the end rollers of the rolling mill is clamped between the rollers whose circumferential speed is slightly greater than that at which the rod travels. The two rollers may be individually driven, by electric motors arranged on either side of the yoke. The yoke may be shaped as a parallelogram. The rollers may be in hardened steel and have a smooth or rough outer surface. The mechanism may be arranged between the end rollers and rod cutting shears.
