Hydroponic cultivation without soil - using water treated with activated carbon to reduce disease and improve yield

Water for use in a system of hydrophonic culture without soil is treated with activated carbon. The carbon removes organic impurities and disease carrying organisms without adsorbing inorganic feeding material. The growth of the plants is quicker than if no carbon were used, and the yields are increased. The water in the system can be passed through a carbon filter. Alternatively the carbon may be dosed into the water in the form of granules. 0.1-0.4 wt.% is then added. When a filter is used the water is preferably circulated in a closed loop. When the system is used to grow plants which normally grow only in particular natural conditions the water temp. and quality are controlled. The atmospheric conditions and illumination are also controlled.
